Minnippi Claims Top Honours for ExcellenceUrbex, a Brisbane-based national developer and a wholly owned subsidiary of the BMD Group, has, in a joint venture partnership with the Brisbane City Council, secured first place at this year’s Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) Queensland Awards for Excellence. Urbex clinched the prestigious accolade in the “Best Residential Subdivision” category for outstanding work on the Minnippi Estate, a sprawling 90-hectare residential community.
A total of 24 awards were presented across diverse categories encompassing affordable housing, medium density, and urban renewal to design. The accolades celebrate developers who excel in crafting inspiring environments where Queenslanders can live, work and play.
Located in Cannon Hill just 11 kilometres from Brisbane’s CBD, Minnippi offers a blend of 125 residential homesites nestled amongst over 90-hectares of open space, environmental habitat, parkland, and a golf course.
Urbex’s General Manager, Peter Sherrie is thrilled about the recent accolade.
“We are deeply honoured to receive this award for Minnippi. Our journey, which began in 2015 through a joint venture partnership with Brisbane City Council, has been long and rewarding. At the heart of our efforts lies our commitment to building a vibrant and well-connected community that will provide a remarkable living environment for both current and future residents,” Mr Sherrie said.
“With the Minnippi Golf Course now completed and all of the golf-front properties now sold, we take immense pride in the development itself and the flourishing community that has found its home in Minnippi.”
Minnippi’s recognition at this year’s premier awards event marks the second prestigious accolade for this remarkable project. Back in 2018, Minnippi had already secured the UDIA Queensland Environmental Excellence Award. Additionally, it earned the Civil Contractors Federation Queensland Branch Category 4 Earth Award in the same year. These multiple awards underscore the exceptional quality and commitment invested in the development.
“This project is a compelling demonstration of our effective collaboration between the BMD Group’svertically integrated business model involving BMD Urban, Empower Engineers & Project Managers, and JMac Constructions, working in partnership with Brisbane City Council throughout its execution,” Mr Sherrie said.
Urbex’s unwavering dedication to environment preservation and enhancement has not only revitalised a former landfill site but has also created thriving habitat for the endangered Squirrel Glider, which doubled in size to over 60 hectares and is home to over 75,000 native seedlings.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the award was a testament to the transformation Brisbane is undertaking.
“Brisbane is continuing to grow and evolve, with projects across our city and suburbs making Brisbane an even better place to live, work and relax,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Council is proud to been able to helped deliver this fantastic facility which involved an incredible transformation of what was a former landfill site.”
“The project puts sustainability front of mind through environmentally considered housing, a natural oasis, and diverse, accessible recreational opportunities for residents.
“The Minnippi Golf Course has been the finishing touch on this fantastic, sustainable precinct, and we know it will foster great connections within the community.”
Being built in line with Sustainable Housing Guidelines, the residential development also promotes energy efficiency, water conservation, and the use of environmentally friendly materials to ensure homes in Minnippi are both aesthetic and environmentally responsible.
Minnippi has become the latest hot spot to live in Brisbane for lifestyle and environmental design, with only one homesite remaining on the market.
